Menu Engine

A menu every guest can read.

Live translation into 40+ languages. Allergen filters your captain can promise with confidence. Pairing suggestions that update the moment the chef changes them. One menu tool that replaces the PDF, the QR laminated card, and the printed insert.

What it does

Six capabilities. One module.

Every capability listed below is included in the base module. No add-ons, no unlock fees, no per-seat surcharges. If you're on xRESTAURANTx, you have this.

1

Instant translation

Point-of-order translation into 40+ guest languages. Not the whole restaurant translated — the menu translated the moment the guest opens it.

2

Allergen filters

Cross-contact protocol lives with the item, not in a binder. Guests filter to dishes their allergen profile clears in one tap.

3

Dietary tags

Vegan, vegetarian, halal, kosher, keto, gluten-free, low-FODMAP. Every tag is honest, every tag is chef-editable.

4

Pairing suggestions

Each dish carries the sommelier's pairing note, the ideal wine-by-glass pour, and the fallback pairing if the primary is 86'd.

5

Live 86 sync

Line cook taps 86 in the KDS. The menu tile grays out on every guest phone in the room in under two seconds.

6

Photo library

Chef uploads one hero photo per dish, xRESTAURANTx auto-crops for menu tile, guest phone, and delivery marketplace.

Tutorial

How to use it. Step by step.

Every operator we onboard runs this same tutorial in their first week. Most complete it in one sit-down; the whole team is comfortable inside two shifts.

01

Upload the menu you already have

PDF, a photo of your handwritten daily specials, or a connection to your existing POS. The menu importer extracts every item, allergen, and modifier automatically. Most restaurants are content-complete in under 20 minutes.

💡 The importer keeps your chef's descriptions verbatim — no AI rewrite unless you ask for it. This is your voice, not ours.
02

Confirm allergens and dietary tags

The chef or sous chef reviews the tag suggestions the importer flagged and confirms or corrects each one. Every allergen has a cross-contact note tied to the station where the dish is fired.

💡 Cross-contact rules propagate. Mark the shared fryer once — every fried dish inherits the shellfish + gluten cross-contact warning automatically.
03

Set your translation targets

Pick the languages your neighborhood actually speaks. Most rooms enable English, Spanish, and one or two more. Translation is generated on-demand at guest scan time, not stored per-menu, so a menu edit never breaks a translated version.

04

Publish

One click. QR codes for tables, direct URL, delivery-marketplace push, and the guest-facing PWA all update simultaneously. Old menu URLs redirect gracefully so any printed insert with last week's QR still works.

05

Edit anywhere, any time

The chef edits from the pass on their phone. Prices, descriptions, 86'd items, tonight's specials — every change lands in the guest interface within two seconds. Zero deploys, zero "call the web guy".

💡 The edit audit log shows who changed what and when. Great for franchise HQ + great for the health inspector who wants to see your allergen protocol history.

Included in every deployment.

xRESTAURANTx modules are not sold separately. Bundle everything — you pay one flat rate keyed to your restaurant's size, not a per-module upsell.

Use cases

Where this module earns its keep.

Concrete scenarios from actual operators using the module in production. Every scenario carries a metric or a mechanism, not a marketing slogan.

The captain who never has to say "let me check" FINE DINING

Your table asks whether the risotto has a hidden trace of fish stock. Your captain taps the tile on their handheld and confirms in three seconds — no walk to the kitchen, no interrupting the chef mid-service.

  • Every allergen note lives with the item, not a binder
  • Sommelier pairing on tap, so servers upsell wine by knowledge, not memory
  • Guest allergy profile persists across visits (with consent)
FINE DINING

The Spanish-speaking guest who didn't have to ask a friend to read the board FAST CASUAL

Guest scans, menu renders in Spanish, they tap through the ordering flow start to finish. Check delivers in English to the KDS with the exact modifier map the guest chose.

  • Instant translation without a separate Spanish menu to maintain
  • Photos on every tile so language barrier meets visual confirmation
  • Modifiers translate too — extra pico, no cilantro, side of habanero all round-trip

FAQ

Answers before you have to ask.

Do I need to translate my menu myself?

No. Translation happens at the guest's scan, using our translation service. You maintain one canonical menu in your primary language. If a specific dish name should never be translated (a signature dish, a proprietary name), you can lock it.

What if my chef changes the menu mid-service?

The chef edits from any device. Guest phones already open at the menu refresh live over websocket — most guests see the new state within two seconds without needing to reload.

Can I hide certain items from delivery marketplaces?

Yes. Each item has a channel toggle: dine-in, takeout, delivery, catering, wholesale. Toggle off delivery for the raw oysters and the delivery marketplace won't show them.

What about wine lists?

The wine list is a menu section with the sommelier module bolted on. It supports vintage, region, tasting note, pour size, by-glass vs bottle, and — importantly — the pour-tracker on the by-the-glass side, so pour cost matches what the POS assumed.
